Artwork in the School
Our brilliant art teacher Miss Golini came up with an idea to put art work in the hallways. Every month or so she puts up a bunch of pictures made by art students such as Jacob,Caroline, and Erin. Our first art teacher Mrs. Vendito made these boxes that the pictures are stored in. When I first saw these I thought "What a great idea". Ever since 1st grade my art work has been in the hallways 7!!!! times, now that's a lot. If you ever visit Hope Highlands look for the art work.

Incredible Egypt

Hi people, its Spencer here and I think Ancient Egypt is pretty interesting. They had huge temples and there wasn't a crane in existence! The answer: huge dirt piles that go up with the building and as the dirt goes down the paint comes on. They had ways of preserving the dead that makes the body last for thousands of years. The Egyptians were thousands of years ahead of their time. The pyramids are still a wonder of the world today. The Hieroglyphs were incredible. They lasted for thousands of years and still exist today!
Hope Highland Food Drive
It's food collecting time at Hope Highlands! The entire school is pitching in to collect food for the needy this Thanksgiving. Each classroom has a cardboard box to put the collected food into. The kindergarten has two boxes, one for morning, one for afternoon. Almost everyone has been giving a little..., or a lot! Some students have been bringing in as many as 40 cans! The officers and classroom representatives of the student council are in charge of counting the food. Each person is in charge of two classrooms, except for me. I do the kindergarten (am and pm) which is like doing two classrooms. Right now, Ms. Stravato's class (my class!) is in the lead with 114 pieces of food. Miss Califano's class is in second place with 59 pieces of food. After the food is counted, it is collected. A member of the school committee collects the food and determines the grand total. This morning (NOT counting the TONS of extra food we just collected) we had 357 pieces of food total. Here is a list of who is collecting from which classrooms.
Room 102/103-Brendan
Room 104/107-Joey
Room 109/111-Abby
Room 105/208 Kyle
Room 108/211-Gretchen
Room 110/209-Stephanie

We will be collecting food until November 20. So keep it coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs: A Movie Review

Hey Huskies,
I just went to see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.Let me tell you what I thought about it It's about a man named Flint Lockwood who makes a food making machine and accidentally sends it into space! It was kind of weird, for many reasons. First, his lab is a treehouse he had ever since he was little. But that's not the weird part, the weird part is he gets in and out of his lab stepping into a portable potty and going either up or down. I thought it was an okay movie. I'm more a Twilight kind of girl. I like action and romance. Not weird and funny, I give this movie three stars.
Go Huskies!

About Hope Highlands School
Hi,I am Marissa and I attend Hope Highlands Elementary School. I am in 6th grade. One interesting fact about Hope Highlands is this school was built in September 1992. Another interesting fact is that every year before either the 5th graders or 6th graders leave the school to go to the Middle school, they paint a wall. In the past some of the walls painted were an Egyptian theme. The class of 2007 made the wall for the Egyptian. If you ever came to this school you should check out stairwell 2. The next wall is the ''World'', Class of 2009 made this wall. Once again if you come to the school you will see this wall when you walk into the school. The last wall is "Under the Sea''. The class of 2005 made this wall. Now after you see the ''World'' you will take a right to stairwell 1. If you like my blog than you should come check out the school.

Hope Highlands Student Council Elections
The student council elections at Hope Highlands were great. It first started with mayor Fung speaking with us. He talked about how much of an opportunity to be voting in elementary school because when he was a kid he couldn't vote for student council until 7th and 8th grade. Another thing he talked about was listening to all the speeches and then vote for the people who are going to the best job. I thought he did a good job talking and hope that everyone doesn't just vote for their friends. I thought everybody had good speeches. One speech I thought was unique was Danielle. She, unlike everybody else, told a story in her speech about a girl running for vice president at her school. Once all the speeches were done I went up to my room to fill out the ballots. I knew who I was voting for. I hope the people I voted for will win. I would find out on Monday. I couldn't wait.

student council: a candidate's point of view
Dear viewer the elections for the student council are getting closer. I can't wait to see who wins. I am running against Gretchen and Teddy. They are good competition. Running for president is hard. You have to make posters, stickers\pins, speeches, but the hardest part is to get the voters to vote. Wow is that hard! You get a voters vote and then you loose there vote to someone else. It is even harder when all you can do to get the voters vote is by giving the stickers/pins and telling them to vote for you. You can not give money, t-shirts, pens, hats, or anything else. The positions you can run for goes by grade so like 4th grade runs treasurer, 5th runs for secretary, and 6th runs for vice president and president. the speeches and elections are on October 30th. I can not wait!

Student Council: Voter's View
Student council is merging closer and closer. Many candidates are putting up funny and persuasive posters and stickers with cool catch phrases. Students will vote on October 30, 2009. On that day is when our candidates will give speeches. The ranks of the student council go by grade. 4th graders can run for treasurer. 5th graders can run for secretary. And 6th graders can run for either vice president or president. As time for the election comes closer and closer, the candidates are getting competitive and voters are considering their choice. Some candidates are making reusable pins. In my opinion, this helps the environment and this may lead that candidate to get more votes. Posters are everywhere: the lunch room, hallway, you name it! Lots of people are running for office and it's going to be a close race.

6th Grade Party
Today is Thursday and it is the day before vacation. The sixth graders had a pizza party and as a very special treat we got to watch the Red Sox game!! Mrs.Stravoto's class got the pizza party because the were the winners for the pennies for patents, they raised the most money. They also got ice cream just for being good. Mr.Colantonio's class was the runner up for the pennies for patents, and Mr.Colantonio thought they did a great job so he awarded them. Ms.Califano gave her class a pizza party because she gave a test, and she said if the average of the class was 95 and higher
